Helene grew up outside of Philadelphia with a taste for both food and adventure. Growing up in a ‘foodie family’ placed good food at the center of the universe. The mantra of ‘living to eat’ could certainly be used to describe the Rimberg household. Cooking and baking were encouraged at an early age – no Easy Bake Ovens – only the real thing. Summers and vacations were spent exploring regions near and far – always looking ahead to the next meal. Unable to figure out how to create a career out of either food or travel, Helene ended up as a Psychologist and worked with children and families for more than 15 years. Somewhat depressed with all the sadness that comes with dysfunctional families, Helene went to work at a non-profit organization that focused on those living with HIV/AIDS. After 8 satisfying years, she decided to let others continue without her in this worthy fight and chose to strike out on her own. Gusto is a way of coming full-circle, back to the simpler things in life. Travel continues to be a passion as she now shows her children all that the world has to offer. Triathlons, skiing, hiking, and kickball are all the ways she manages to continue to eat with Gusto! Doug was born in Minnesota, the 6th child in what was to become a family of 8 children. He spent his early childhood days living on Council Crest and happily recounts “little boy stories” about growing-up in Portland to anyone who will listen. The family moved to California where Doug perfected his happy-go-lucky surf boy persona. Family vacations involved loading up the Ford 10-seater station wagon and touring the country. A naturally born athlete, Doug excelled at many sports, in particular soccer. To round out his jock image (and hang out with girls), Doug took cooking classes throughout high school. This paid off for him later when he won 1st place in a Texas county fair for his Russian Teacakes. Years of wandering aimlessly ended when he met his bride-to-be in a bar in Virginia. With her prodding he finished his Economics degree and the couple took off on a bike tour through Europe. Doug’s outgoing persona and ability to talk people into most anything led to a productive career in Sales. He dreams of retiring on a beach somewhere but in the meantime spends as much of his time playing soccer, training for Triathlons, drinking wine, cooking and going on holiday. Hannah is a super-smart 8th grader at Lake Oswego Junior High. She is the drama queen of the family – literally, and school plays are how she expresses her inner actress. Hannah’s perfect vacation involves; eating lots of food, biking, hiking and beaches. Her claim to fame – at the age of 13 she still has never eaten at a fast food restaurant. She dreams of being a stage actress when she grows up and she has promised to buy her parents a large villa looking out over the Mediterranean Sea. Maddie is a 6th grader at Oak Creek Elementary. Taking after her father, most times you will find her with a soccer ball attached to her foot. Other sporty pursuits will suffice in a pinch, especially if they involve high risk and lots of adrenaline. Although she would rather play than eat, she never met a pasta she didn’t love. Her favorite vacation involves; ziplines, swimming, snorkeling, hiking & beaches. |
